Self Study 3
This is the third self study for KIT207, rigging and animating a character model in Blender. I used a character model of a fully equipped SWAT Officer from https://www.mixamo.com, and created my own rig using their default rigging tool as a guideline. I then animated this rig with three separate animations, the first of which is a walking animation. This ended up being a little janky and didn't look that great as I tried something different by making my character appear as though he was walking with a rifle, ready to fire. My inexperience with animating held me back here, and given a while longer to tinker with this animation I could probably smooth it out. Slowing the movement of the legs and adding some upper body movement would make this a lot smoother.
The second animation was an Idle animation for the character. I wanted it to appear like he was breathing on an infinite loop. I felt as though this one was a bit better, although the breathing was a little quick and I think more emphasis on the motion used when breathing would definitely help with the idle animation. Although it would make for a good "out of breath" animation.
For the third animation I wanted to try something a bit different. I wanted it to appear as though the character heard something, ordered those behind him to stop, and then looks up at the camera to the source of the noise. This actually turned out pretty OK and I'm pretty happy with this animation for my first attempts at animating a character. The only thing I couldn't figure out is why the hand looked so odd.
Overall, given more time the animations could be made smoother or redone completely in a better way, though I think this is adequate for now. Looping the animations, particularly the walking one would look rather odd in Unity however.
